Words, Music, Memory: (Re)Presenting Voices from the Holocaust
About this Event
77 West College Street, Oberlin, OH 44074
In this concert, soprano Sheena Ramirez ’06, in collaboration with Courtney Miller (oboe) and Daniel Michalak (piano), will present works composed by Lori Laitman and Dr. Laurence Sherr in a lecture-recital focused on music based on the words of young people who witnessed the Holocaust. The concert will illustrate the power of music to bridge generations in active commemoration, a theme illuminated in the “Words, Music, Memory” exhibit, which is on display at Terrell Library through November 18. Exhibit curator, Adina Langer ‘06, will provide commentary during the performance. Sponsored by the History Department, Jewish Studies Program, Public Humanities Integrative Concentration, and Mead-Swing Lecture Fund.
Conservatory visitors are asked to enter the complex through either Bibbins Hall’s east entrance (off College Place, across from the Oberlin College Bookstore) or the Conservatory Lounge’s west entrance (off S. Professor St., adjacent to the Conservatory Pond). All other entrances will be closed to the public.
