Oberlin College and Conservatory

Webinar—Reviving a "Dead" Sculpture: Art, Illness, and Conservation in the Work of Hannah Wilke

Thursday, September 17 at 3:00pm to 4:15pm

87 North Main Street, Oberlin, OH 44074

The AMAM presents a lecture and discussion on the conservation challenges posed by a work in the Allen's collection that has never been on view. Ellen Johnson '33 Assistant Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art Andrea Gyorody presents her research on a latex sculpture by the late feminist artist Hannah Wilke, whose interest in decay and ephemerality, Gyorody argues, supports a nontraditional approach to the display of her work. Joining the conversation are Marsie Scharlatt, Wilke's sister, who is a trustee and director of the Hannah Wilke Collection and Archive in Los Angeles; and art conservator Heather Galloway. An audience Q&A will follow.
