http://www2.oberlin.edu/amam/tuesday_teas.htmlProfessor of East Asian Studies Ann Sherif explores the ukiyo-e prints in the exhibition "Japan on Stage" in the context of Japan’s vibrant and influential tradition of performing arts. Sherif situates the images of kabuki actors, Noh dance and song, and bunraku puppets in the dynamic urban culture of 17th-20th century Japan, and considers the appeal of stories of lovers, warriors, cross-dressers, and mountain spirits for viewers and audiences today.
These free talks are presented on the second Tuesday of the month in the East Gallery. Tea and cookies follow each program.
