Alex Christie (‘09, composition/TIMARA) will present, ‘‘Composing Musical Power Structures Through Light and Sound.’’ He will discuss the compositional process, aesthetics, and technical design of two of his recent works for electronics and light: System Blocks Signal Blocks System and mouthfeel.
He will share his approach to composing dynamic power relationships between performer and technology/musical instrument that extend beyond the traditional perspective of “performer as dominant force”.
The presentation will include time for participants to experiment with some of his instruments and electronic systems.
