Biographical Note:

Patrick Bellegarde-Smith is professor emeritus at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He holds a doctorate in international politics and history, but much of his published work is on Haitian social philosophy, national identity and politics, and African-derived religions. His books have been translated into Spanish, Portuguese and French.
