Golem: How He Came Into The World
This visually stunning 1920 German silent horror classic draws upon the ancient Jewish legend of the ‘‘Golem.’’ Suffering under the tyrannical rule of Rudolf II in 16th-century Prague, a renowned rabbi creates a giant warrior to protect his peope.
Scuplted of clay and animated by the mysterious secrets of Kabbalah, the Golem can perform acts of great heroism, yet is equally capable of dreadful violence. When the rabbi’s assistant attempts to use Golem for selfish gain, the monster runs rampant and sparks chaos. This film is presented by University of Michigan Professor Maya Barzilai.
Refreshments and snacks will be available starting at 7:30 pm; film screening begins at 8 pm. Free
Sponsored by Oberlin Hillel and funded by the Ring Family Fund.
