The Unorthodox

It’s 1983. The religious part in Israel is led by the Ashkenazi elite. Yakov Cohen, a Mizrahi printer in Jerusalem, has neither money, connections, nor political experience, but after his daughter is expelled from an Ashkenazi yeshiva, he decides that things need to change. With the help of two friends, a sense of humor, and a lot of determination, he aims to build a new political party from the bottom up.

Refreshments will be served before the film at 6:30 p.m.; Q&A with Matt Berkman, visiting assistant professor of Jewish studies, following the film.

The Ring Family Jewish Film Festival is funded by the Ring Family Fund and sponsored by Oberlin Hillel and the Jewish Studies Program Committee.
