Professor Amanda Schmidt (geology) will talk about her research as a Fulbright Scholar in Environmental Science at Sichuan University, China, in 2019–2020. Schmidt hypothesized a large lake used to fill the Yanyuan Basin in southwest Sichuan. If she could prove that the lake existed, her research would have major implications for the archaeology and geology of the region over the past 2,000 years. But then the pandemic changed everything. Join us to hear Amanda Schmidt’s fascinating story about research and life in China during COVID. Sponsored by LIASE. EAS, ENVST, and geology.
