The master class with vocalist/cellist Audrey Chen will focus on working with students on solo improvisation with a strong emphasis on fundamental voice production and ways how to extend their vocal practices. Those students who will benefit most from the class will be intermediate to advanced performers/musicians who are looking to deepen their understanding of the voice, how to use it effectively and push the boundaries of traditional vocal production in relation to their own work.
There will be technical/practical discussions as well as theoretical ones about the use of the voice based in language, communication, as a multifaceted instrument, and as an extension or impetus of/for a secondary instrument. There will be additional discussion on composition, extended techniques/textures and improvisation as a tool.
Performers interested in participating should contact firstname.lastname@example.org with your name, instrument, and performance setup. While the masterclass is focused on the voice, performers on other instruments are welcome as well. Participants should have a 5-8 minute work or improvisation prepared for performace.
