Q & A with John Hollenbeck

Thursday, April 4, 2013 at 10:00am to 11:00am

Clonick Hall, Bertram and Judith Kohl Building 77 West College Street, Oberlin, OH 44074

Jazz percussionist, composer, arranger, and teacher John Hollenbeck is described as a conceptualist able to translate the traditions of jazz and new music into a fresh, eclectic, forward-looking language of his own invention, intellectually rewarding yet ever accessibly vibrant. Possessed of a playful versatility and a virtuosic wit, he is, most of all, a musical thinker – whether putting pen to paper or conjuring spontaneous sound – allergic to repetition, forever seeking to surprise himself and his audiences.
