Public Intellectuals in a Changing World: Panel Discussion

Friday, March 1 at 3:00pm to 4:30pm

Hallock Auditorium, Adam Joseph Lewis Center for Environmental Studies
122 Elm Street, Oberlin, OH 44074

“The Global Phenomenon of Elena Ferrante: Public Intellectual Without a Face” is theme of this panel discussion. It will feature Tiziana de Rogatis of the University for Foreigners of Siena; Michael Reynolds, editor in chief, Europa Editions. Stiliana Milkova of Oberlin will moderate.

This discussion is part of the international symposium, bringing together scholars, scientists, musicians, filmmakers, writers, and publishers to discuss the impact of art on public discourse.

How can art become a lingua franca that speaks to people from different parts of the world? What are the risks and rewards for cross-cultural translation, adaptation, and appreciation?

Drawing from the strengths of Oberlin College as a liberal arts institution, this symposium explores how the study of literature, art, music, and science can prepare students to become globally engaged citizens.
