Playing at Power and Powerlessness: Agency in "Papo & Yo and Life Is Strange 2"
About this Event
50 North Professor Street, Oberlin, OH 44074
Join Dr. Regina Marie Mills, holder of the Elton Lewis Faculty Fellowship in Liberal Arts and Associate Professor of English at Texas A&M University, for a conversation on how the video games Papo & Yo and Life Is Strange 2 use Latinx child protagonists to reimagine agency, care, and survival within systems of trauma and power imbalance. Dr. Mills’s research explores Latinx and AfroLatinx literature, media, and games, focusing on storytelling, care, and representation. This event accompanies the Gaming Booth, currently installed at the Cooper International Learning Center, featuring the games Papo & Yo and Life Is Strange 2. Snacks and refreshments will be served.
