Oberlin alumnus Ryan Packard, Class of 2012, is pursuing a master's degree in performance at McGill University, where he is active in the McGill Contemporary Music Ensemble, McGill Percussion Ensemble, and Architek percussion quartet. Ryan has performed throughout the United States, Canada, and Asia.
As an avid performer of contemporary music, Ryan has worked closely with Vinko Globokar, David Lang, Tristan Perich, Seung-ah Oh, Per Bloland, Josh Levine, Lewis Nielson, and Evan Ziporyn as well as student composers. He has worked closely with renowned free-improvisational artists Keith Rowe, Maya Masaoka, Tim Feeney, and Vic Rowlings.
Ryan’s improvisation percussion duo, 4eyes, with fellow percussionist/composer, Preston Beebe, focuses on duo drum set improvisation with electronic media and has just released their 1st album, Mountain. As an indie rock musician, Ryan composes and plays drum set for the math-rock jazz project, Feefawfum.
His teachers are Aiyun Huang, Fabrice Marandola, Michael Rosen, Allen Otte, William Linwood, and Tom Sherwood.
