Oberlin Dance Company: Tracing Our Roots

Friday, May 3 at 8:00pm

More dates through May 4, 2019

Hall Auditorium
67 North Main Street, Oberlin, OH 44074

Oberlin Dance Company presents, Tracing Our Roots, "A look Into the Past as we Move Into the Future," featuring Djapo Cultural Arts Institute, a premier West African Dance Company based in Cleveland, Ohio.

ODC presents an exhilarating concert examining the evolution of the perception and experiences of black dancers in America. The performance will give you a delectable taste of the dance archives exploring the history of black dance in Oberlin with an integration of culture, empowerment, struggle, and triumph.

Choreographed and directed by Talise Campbell, visiting assistant professor of dance and Africana studies, alongside the fiery musical direction of Grammy-nominated percussionist Weedie Braimah, this thought-provoking theatrical dance work is compelled to take you on an emotionally exciting and challenging journey, while interlacing folkloric dance, explosive drumming, song, and poetry.

Friday and Saturday feature an exhilarating concert, and Sunday features a panel discussion and post-show talk back along with traditional dance & drumming workshops.

For more information about panel discussion and workshops, send email to talise.campbell@oberlin.edu or call 216-559-0162.
