Merging Avocation and Vocation. A discussion sponsored by the First in the Family Speaker Series featuring Nakisha Chaney ’98, an attorney who specializes in employment and civil rights litigation. Throughout her career, she has also worked with numerous nonprofits, including the University of Michigan Human Trafficking Law Project, the National Employment Law Project, the ACLU of Michigan, and Amnesty International USA. In 2012, Ms. Chaney joined Nacht Law, where she represents clients in employment and civil rights actions.

As a law student at the University of Michigan, she was a member of the Child Advocacy Law Clinic, interned at the American Civil Liberties Union, and was a summer associate at Dickinson Wright PLLC. She was also a member of the Michigan Journal of Gender and Law. After graduating from law school, Ms. Chaney clerked for two years at the Michigan Supreme Court and thereafter joined Dickinson Wright as an associate specializing in commercial and consumer protection litigation. Throughout her career, she has also worked with numerous nonprofits, including the National Employment Law Project, the ACLU of Michigan, Amnesty International USA, and the University of Michigan Human Trafficking Law Project. In 2012, Ms. Chaney joined Nacht Law, where she represents clients in employment and civil rights actions.

The First In The Family Speaker Series is a program created by Student Academic Services to
celebrate and affirm the competence and possibilities of first generation students at Oberlin College.
