Athletes have known for decades that physical preparation alone is not enough to perform optimally under pressure. After all, why do we nail the most difficult passages in the practice room, but crumble when we have an audience? Performing doesn't have to be such a nerve-wracking experience. And increasingly, musicians too are beginning to engage in mental skills training - preparing in ways that can lead to more consistently inspired performances. In this workshop, we'll take a quick look at some of the key strategies that athletes and musicians use to perform optimally when it counts. Students are invited to bring their instruments to the group sessions to be coached by Dr. Kageyama in front of the class.
