About this Event
Come hear from H.I.J.O.S.—Hijos por la Identidad y la Justicia contra el Olvido y el Silencio, or Sons and Daughters for Identity and Justice Against Forgetting and Silence!
They are an organization of children of people who were disappeared in Guatemala. H.I.J.O.S. works to raise awareness about crimes of the past and denounce impunity in Guatemala. Though H.I.J.O.S. does many things, one of the most notable is their graffiti-style street art illuminating the deaths of their parents and how Guatemalan youth and Maya youth are mistreated.
H.I.J.O.S. is based in Guatemala City and, since its founding in 1999, has received threats from government sympathizers. There are also H.I.J.O.S. organizations across Latin America including in Argentina, Colombia, Uruguay, and Mexico.
