Melancholy Play is about a beautiful, interesting, and melodramatic bank teller named Tilly. Everyone she meets falls in love with her, leading to her inexplicable happiness—this happiness, however, wreaks havoc on the lives of her admirers.

A contemporary farce, Melancholy Play comments on love in several forms: love between people, love of life, and the potentially destructive love of sadness.
