How can looking at art sharpen our ability to deconstruct and understand the complex visual world around us? In this primer on the art of looking, Hannah Wirta Kinney, assistant curator of academic programs, helps viewers to slow down, deconstruct, and analyze a number of works from the AMAM’s collection. The practice may be used to see films and other forms of popular culture with new nuance.

This video was originally produced in summer 2020 as part of an innovative course, "Cinema and Change: Ritual, Identity, and Coming of Age," organized by Laura Baudot, associate dean of the college and associate professor of English. The course introduced incoming first-year students to liberal arts learning at Oberlin College.

The video will appear in our Facebook feed and on our Vimeo page.
