Fiber and Studio Arts Across the African Diaspora: Knitting and Crochet Circle

Saturday, February 25 at 2:00pm to 4:00pm

Allen Memorial Art Museum, East Gallery
87 North Main Street, Oberlin, OH 44074

Lisa Whitfield, a 1990 Oberlin College graduate and owner of For Ewe: An Inclusive Fiber Community in downtown Oberlin, will offer instruction on knitting and crocheting. Participants are welcome to bring their own projects. Materials will also be provided.

This event is a collaboration between the Allen Memorial Art Museum and the Africana Studies Department celebrating fiber arts across the African diaspora. Fiber art consists of natural fibers, recycled materials, yarn, and fabric. We will host a weeklong series of collaging, crocheting, knitting, and quilting workshops. The goal is to familiarize Black students on campus with the Studio Art department, give students space to create art facilitated by Black community members, and connect students with Black art in the Allen.
