Define American: An Evening with Jose Antonio Vargas
Everyone lives a double life, their professional one and their private one. But for Jose Antonio Vargas that divide was even more defined than most. A successful journalist who'd written for The New Yorker, Rolling Stone, the Washington Post, and more, Vargas was also part of the Pulitzer Prize winning coverage of the Virginia Tech shooting. But unknown to even his closest friends, Vargas was hiding a secret: since the age of 16 he'd been living the life of an undocumented immigrant. Today he runs Define American, a non-profit seeking to expand and elevate our national conversation on immigration.
“This deceit never got easier. The more I did it, the more I felt like an impostor, the more guilt I carried — and the more I worried that I would get caught.” – Jose Antonio Vargas
