Join a panel discussion of faculty and staff from a variety of fields at Oberlin College on the day after the U.S. election.  Engage and reflect with professionals and peers on the election results (or what is known at that point) and the major issues or questions that each person is thinking about.

This is a structured event that will allow for critical reflection on how best to approach the moment as intellectuals, artists, and mentors, not necessarily as experts on electoral politics.

Sample prompts for the panel might be:

  • What issues or concerns have been most important to you as you have thought about this election season?
  • There has been significant focus on the divisiveness of American politics; what are your thoughts about and hopes for US democracy at this moment?
  • Imagine 20 years from now, students ask you for your thoughts about and experience of the 2020 election - what might you say?

Panelists include:

  • Assistant Professor of Politics Jennifer Garcia
  • Associate Professor and Chair of English Gillian Johns
  • Associate Professor of Sociology Greggor Mattson
  • Professor of Mathematics Jeff Witmer
  • Wayne Wood
