A Bank for the People: The People's Savings Bank and Community Building In Philadelphia,1906-1917"
Everett F. Hardy Il is a historian of African American, urban, business, and women's and gender history. Originally from Philadelphia, his work focuses on how the Black community in the city utilized Black economic nationalism to challenge northern forms of Jim Crow in the early twentieth century. His work argues that inter-gender mutualism, a term he coined to describe the collaborative and gendered community work of Black Philadelphians, was essential in transforming Philadelphia into a center of economic, political, and cultural power for Black people.
Light refreshments will be served.
