Performers and speakers from the college and conservatory community gather in celebration of the life and career of Frances Walker (1924-2018), acclaimed pianist and educator. Walker, alumna of Oberlin’s Class of 1945, was the first African American woman to become a tenured professor at Oberlin College.
Performers include pianists Vincent Craig, Kevin Sharpe, Clifford Jackson, Bill Billingham, and Joseph Williams as well as her nephew and violinist Gregory Walker (son of Pulitzer Prize-winning composer George Walker '41, the late brother of Frances Walker). Tribute addresses will be delivered by Oberlin Conservatory Dean Andrea Kalyn, David Stull, Lee Koonce, and Peter Takács.
