Please join the art department for this artist lecture presented by Fidencio Fifield- Perez.

Fidencio Fifield-Perez was born in Oaxaca, Mexico, and raised in the U.S. after his family migrated. His practice critiques the authority given to paper objects over the people they document. Recent works reincarnate discarded maps and envelopes as ex-votos and papel picados, referencing the crafts and customs he learned to celebrate festivals and mourn the dead in Oaxaca. These techniques ground Fifield-Perez in experiences that precede and came after the overtly defining moment of crossing the border.

This event is presented with support from the Dean of Arts & Sciences and the Ellen H. Johnson Endowment for Contemporary Art History.
