Oberlin College Libraries will host a panel discussion on the topic of “Fake News." This forum will allow us to talk as a community about the influence of fake news on public opinion, responsible writing, and reporting of news, challenges to information seekers in consuming, evaluating, and interpreting news, and the impact of writing, distributing, and reading poorly-vetted news.
Four panelists will speak from various disciplinary perspectives on the creation and dissemination of “fake news,” the impact of such information on our personal and collective discourse, and the responsibilities of the body politic in addressing and confronting issues raised by dubious news sources.
The panelists are:
Steve Volk, emeritus, professor of history
Ferd Protzman, chief of staff, Rhetoric and Composition Program
Charles Peterson, associate professor of Africana studies
Andy Young, editor of the Chronicle-Telegram
Eboni Johnson
