Nico Delmundo is a teacher, choreographer, and performing artist with Samahan Filipino American Performing Arts in San Diego, California. He has learned from regional artists and cultural practitioners in Mindanao, Sulu, and Sabah, Malaysia.

Delmundo will introduce cultures of Sama, Tausug, and Yakan groups within the Sulu Archipelago. He will demonstrate some of the vernacular dances within Sulu which converse with the music of the gong ensemble instrument kulintang. Finally, Delmundo will discuss the legacy of these dances in Philippine American communities and invite audience participation in movement.

This workshop includes dance instruction, open to all ages and movement backgrounds. For wheelchair access, please contact knepomuc@oberlin.edu

This event is sponsored by the Filipinx American Student Association (FASA) of Oberlin College to commemorate Filipino American Heritage Month.
