Modern Music Guild presents, as part of a weekend residency, a performance of Michael Pisaro's “Concentric Rings in Magnetic Levitation," featuring four renowned new music musicians and composers: Jason Brogan, Joe Panzner, Sam Sfirri, and Greg Stuart. The concert will take place in Central 25, Sunday, March 9, at 8 PM.
The quartet will additionally perform two duo sets on Saturday, March 8 in Fairchild Chapel at 8 PM and give a workshop on March 9 in Bibbins 237 at 4 PM.
Concentric Rings in Magnetic Levitation (2010-2011), inspired by recent hypotheses regarding the electromagnetic character of Saturn's Rings, features an 88-note piano "melody." The melody includes a series of 13 concentric "rings" of sine tones, radio static, percussion and other elements which cycle around this central source.
