Oberlin College’s annual Commencement/Reunion Weekend (CRW) celebrates the accomplishments of new graduates and welcomes alumni back to campus for four days of arts, social, intellectual, and musical events.
The Commemcement ceremony begins with a faculty-led procession followed by presentations and conferring of degrees. The event is outdoors and will take place rain or shine.
Commencement is the culminating event of the annual Commencement/Reunion Weekend, an opportunity for alumni to connect with former classmates, and professors, revisit old haunts, and welcome new graduates to the alumni ranks.
Featuring David Sedaris as the commencement speaker. Sedaris, a writer, humorist and author, will also be awarded an honorary Doctor of Fine Arts. Beloved for his personal essays and short stories, Sedaris has written several books and recorded several original audio pieces often broadcast on the public radio show This American Life. The college will also present honorary degrees to agriculturalist and researcher Cary Fowler, emeritus professor and musicologist Christoph Wolff, and its Distinguished Service to the Community Award to longtime volunteers Roy and Aiko Ebihara. This will be the first graduating class under President Carmen Ambar, who took office in August 2017.
