Dr. Andrew Donnelly will present the Classics Department talk “Steaming Pots of Porridge: Cooking, Cato, and Conservatism in Republican Rome”
Andrew Donnelly (he/him) is assistant professor of history at East Texas A&M University. He has participated on numerous archaeological excavations in Italy, England, and Portugal. His work focus on ancient foodways; he has recently published articles on the phenomenology of the Roman meal and an examination of the dining habits of sailors in late antiquity. He was a fellow in Byzantine Studies at Dumbarton Oaks in Fall 2024 and co-editor of From Garum to Mole: Sauces and Identity in the Western World, forthcoming from Oxford University Press.
