In her recent communication to the college about the murder of George Floyd, President Carmen Twillie Ambar wrote of the anger, pain, and frustration that so many are feeling right now as we witness yet another brutal police killing of a black man.

“After Minneapolis: A Teach-In on the George Floyd Uprising” invites Oberlin to come together as a community to learn and help make sense of the recent events. Oberlin faculty from a variety of disciplines will offer their perspectives on the recent murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis; the history of white supremacy in the United States; and the protests and demands for justice that are taking place across the country today.

The hour-long panel will be moderated by Gina Perez, professor of comparative American studies. The panelists are:

• Justin Emeka, associate professor of theater and Africana studies
• David Forrest, assistant professor of politics
• Jenny Garcia, assistant professor of politics and comparative American studies
• Charles Peterson, associate professor of Africana studies
• Matthew Rarey, assistant professor of art history
• Renee Romano, professor of history, comparative American studies, and Africana studies

Watch the teach-in via Zoom.
