Sabine Marina Jones is the German Faculty-in-Residence at Oberlin College. She is currently a PhD candidate at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she will complete her dissertation entitled “’Outsiders Within': Afro-Germans in West Germany—Discourses, Perceptions, and Experiences, 1949–1989."
Her dissertation examines West German discourses of Afro-Germans in print media and Afro-German experiences and perceptions in West German society between 1949 and 1989. Based on oral interviews with Afro-Germans born between 1942 and 1980, as well as Afro-German autobiographies, she will provide an overview of Afro-German experiences during the course of four decades. The presentation will be given in English.
