For more than a decade, Oberlin College's Translation Symposium has been an intellectual and creative high point of the academic year.  It is a fast-paced, multilingual event that introduces and celebrates literary works from more than a dozen languages. Selected participants will read a brief text (poetry or prose) in the original language followed by the English translation, with comments on the translation process.

Guest speaker Mary Ann Newman will give the keynote talk, "In Praise of Borders (Not Walls): Translation and the Shibboleths of Identity," at 4:30 p.m., April 3.

Event sponsors include the Departments of Comparative Literature, English, and Hispanic Studies; the Creative Writing Program; and the Oberlin Center for Languages and Cultures.
