Plan to attend these events with Keith Rowe on Wednesday, November 13:

Workshop in Bibbins 223 at 5 PM (Bring things to improvise with!).

Q&A/Lecture/Hanging Out in Bibbins 223 at 8 PM

Keith Rowe is one of the most important improvisatory musicians of the last 40 years. He was a founder in 1965 of the maverick British free improvisation group AMM, playing with them until 2004. He developed a unique approach of laying a guitar flat on a table, preparing and playing it with a variety of tool, objects, and forms of amplification. Rowe has become one of the most respected experimental improvisers of his generation, having collaborated with Evan Parker, Christian Wolff, Toshimaru Nakamura, Jason Lescalleet, Taku Sugimoto, and Cardew, among others.

***For the first half of the concert Tuesday night, Rowe will be performing, along with an ensemble of approximately 10 students, a section of Cornelius Cardews' 193-page graphic-score Treatise. Cornelius Cardew, a British composer known for his founding of the Scratch Orchestra, his graphic scores, and his later turn to strictly Marxist-influenced works, was also a member of AMM in the 60s, and improvisation became a principle interest of his. If you'd like to be involved in this performance, please send an e-mail to ssilvers@oberlin.edu, along with a sentence or two about your performance experience and why you're interested in performing. You will need to be free Monday night (Nov. 11) and late Tuesday afternoon (Nov. 12) for two rehearsals, tentatively scheduled for 8 PM and 4 PM respectively.
